Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, is a volunteer women's organization with over 300,000 members who are motivated and inspired to strengthen their partnership with Israel, ensure Jewish continuity, and realize their potential as a dynamic force in American society.

Founded in 1912, Hadassah retains the passion and timeless values of its founder, Henrietta Szold, who was dedicated to Judaism, Zionism, and the American ideal.

Each year of hundreds of thousands of Jews, Arabs and Christians are treated at Hadassah's hospitals as well as community health centers and outpatient clinics.  Cutting edge research is being done at the Goldyne Savad Institute for Gene Therapy and the Sharett Institute of Oncology, offering facilities and services unmatched in the Middle East.  Hadassah also funds schools, as well as water and land resources to meet the Israel's changing needs.

Here in the United States Hadassah is an advocate on issues such as the importance of organ and tissue donation, women's health issues, literacy, violence against women, gun control and first amendment rights.

Locally, the Charlotte Chapter of Hadassah has over 600 life and annual members.  We also have over 60 men who are associate members.  Programs include an annual Education Day, study groups and outstanding speakers on a wide variety of topics relevant to all Jewish women.  There are also a number of exciting social events held throughout the year.

The Charlotte Chapter of Hadassah also helps to support the local chapter of Young Judea, which makes a tremendous difference in the life of a Jewish child.  Each year Young Judea sends more young people to Israel than any other youth organization in America, their alumni go on to become active members of the Jewish community.

The Hadassah Directory, published and sold annually by the Charlotte Chapter of Hadassah is a must for anyone new to the Charlotte Jewish community.  The directory lists names, addresses and telephone numbers of all members of Charlotte Jewish community as well as listings for several businesses of products and services that support and are closely affiliated with the community.

We look forward to seeing new faces at our meetings, and welcome new members.   I urge you to contact the Charlotte Chapter of Hadassah and get involved!  Whether your time is limited, or you have hours to give you will find good friends and a wonderful sense of personal satisfaction.
