Guest speaker: Ruth Reichl

Invitations should arrive to mailboxes soon.

The Jewish Federation’s 2014 Annual Spring Lecture sponsored by Publix Super Markets, Inc. will be held on Thursday, March 27 at Temple Beth-El and will feature culinary icon and author Ruth Reichl!

The Spring Lecture is the largest campaign and outreach event presented by the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte’s Women Division. This year’s Spring Lecture will feature bestselling author and culinary icon Ruth Reichl.

Reichl was the Editor-in-Chief of Gourmet Magazine for ten years, former restaurant critic for The New York Times and author of a trilogy of acclaimed best-selling memoirs: Tender at the Bone, Comfort Me with Apples, and Garlic and Sapphires.

In Garlic and Sapphires, Reichl wrote about her adventures as the undercover dining critic for The New York Times, giving us — along with some of her favorite recipes and reviews—her remarkable reflections on how one’s outer appearance can influence one’s inner character and appetites, not to mention the quality of service one receives. But Reichl has been a restaurant critic for thirty years, and most of the great tales from the table remain untold. We hope you will join us for this unique opportunity to hear one of the most beloved and recognizable culinary voices share her hilarious stories from the front of the house to the back of the kitchen.

This year’s Spring Lecture is co-chaired by Randi Lan and Stacey Schanzlin. Serving on the Spring Lecture Committee with Randi and Stacey are Talli Dippold, Sara Kulbersh, Mallory Miller, Elaine Moody, Debbie Porter, Jenny Rosenthal, Lori Rosenthal, Stephanie Townsend and Marisa Zeibert.

The evening will begin with dinner at 6:30 PM in the Main Hall at Temple Beth El and the lecture will take place at 8 PM in the temple sanctuary. A dessert reception and book signing will follow the program. New this year will be our STROLLING DINNER which will allow our guests to mingle while enjoying a variety of scrumptious food!

Spring Lecture tickets are $40 for the Dinner and Lecture, or $18 for the Lecture Only. There is a minimum donation of $50 to the 2014 Jewish Federation Annual Campaign to attend the event. Pledges are payable through December 2014.

In addition to the generous sponsorship provided by Publix Super Markets, Inc., we also appreciate the generous support provided by North Carolina Bank and Trust, Creative Events, Mallory and Kevin Miller, and Aviva Stein, MD. A complete list of our sponsors will appear in the April CJN.

Our Annual Campaign funds and supports a broad network of organizations that focus on two critical things: 1. Caring for people in need here in Charlotte, in Israel and around the world; 2. Nurturing and sustaining the Jewish community today and for future generations.
