Dr. David Goldfield, Robert Lee Bailey Professor of History at UNC Charlotte, will lead a deep dive into the complicated story of Judah P. Benjamin, a Jewish Confederate leader, slaveholder, and political strategist whose legacy included a long-standing monument here in Charlotte. Dr. Goldfield will explore what Benjamin’s life reveals about Southern Jewish identity, the New South, and the ongoing struggle for moral clarity.
